The Growth Blacklist/Sales Funnel/If You Think You Have a “Funnel Website,” You’re Doing It Wrong

"Funnel Website" Doesn’t Exist... Here’s What You Actually Need

Alright, let’s clear up one of the biggest misconceptions floating around the online business world.

People keep throwing around the term “funnel website” like it’s a real thing…

But it’s not.

There’s no such thing as a “funnel website.” It’s a made-up term that mashes together two very different things:

  • A funnel (aka sales funnel) is a structured sequence of pages that guide someone from stranger → lead → customer.
  • A website is a collection of pages that provide info about your brand, business, or services.

A funnel is not a website. A website is not a funnel.

And if you’ve been treating them like the same thing? That might be why your conversions are looking kinda… meh.

Why People Get Confused

It’s not your fault. The internet is full of mixed messaging:

Because a funnel website doesn’t exist. But here’s what does…

  • Some people tell you, “You need a website!”
  • Others scream, “Websites are dead, build a funnel instead!”
  • And then there are those who just smash the two together into “funnel website” and act like it’s a thing.

But it’s not. So let’s fix that thinking.

Funnels vs. Websites: What’s the Difference?

Here’s the simplest way to break it down:

A sales funnel is a journey. It’s a step-by-step process that moves a person toward a buying decision—like a digital salesperson working 24/7.

A website is a digital storefront. It’s where people go to learn about your business, browse services, and click around (usually without taking much action).

Think of it like this:

  • A sales funnel is a single road with clear signs telling you exactly where to go.
  • A website is a map where visitors can roam freely… and often get lost.

A good business strategy? You need both—but they serve different purposes.

What You ACTUALLY Need Instead of a "Funnel Website"

If you’ve been struggling to get leads and sales, here’s what to do:

  • For conversions → Build a SALES FUNNEL. This is where you direct traffic when you want people to take action (opt-in, book a call, buy now).
  • For credibility → Have a WEBSITE. This is where people can browse, check your brand out, and build trust before they commit.
  • For the best of both worlds → Optimize your site like a funnel. If you want your website to generate leads, remove distractions, create clear CTAs, and drive visitors toward one action at a time.

The Biggest Mistake? Thinking One Replaces the Other

Some people ditch websites altogether and ONLY use funnels. Others swear by traditional websites and ignore funnels.

Both are wrong. Instead, use them together.

  • The smart move? Use them together.
  • Drive cold traffic to your funnel for direct conversions.
  • Use your website for authority-building and long-term SEO benefits.

Now that you finally get the difference, how do you actually use funnels to increase conversions?

I break it all down inside my book, Conversion Secrets—a free guide packed with high-impact strategies to turn clicks into customers.
